Methods of Cataloguing — further development

The website remains a work in progress, but I have reworked it significantly since last term. Focused on three key areas for further development:

Narrative
Synthesis:
Drafting original notes to bridge external sources and my commentary, guiding the reader toward deeper meaning.

System Critique:
Refining the site’s layout and grid to provide more context on my categorisations.

Structural Reflexivity:
Applying Drucker’s concepts to the entry layouts. The goal is to mirror bibliographic conventions and more effectively surface the inherent labour and politics without relying solely on explicit commentary.

A clear through line connects my recent work: an investigation into the material traces of labour and politics. In this project, that interest intersects with my experience of Australian colonialism, addressing the systemic racism and the political denial of colonial violence embedded in contemporary life.

VISUAL CUES: I’ve reworked elements of the site, to clarify the categorisations used and also through the use of three different kinds of links or tool tips: to highlight critical questions; to elaborate on terms; and to link to external references. Each has its own style, a visual cue to the user of the kind of information that they can access.

AS LIBRARY CATALOGUE:This project still requires a lot of refinement especially in terms of content and language use. However, even in this form, it operates as an interesting reworking of the library catalogue. Layers of information work to combine and relate the specifics of the books physicality, authorship, publication and with more attention paid to the relations between the books which helps to accumulate new knowledge about the set.
