Positions through contextualising — further development

Flier to prompt watching

After consolidating all the making tests I’ve done during this brief I realised what I wanted to know more about was what others might get from using my simple card viewfinders to watch Dolphin Close. So I designed a small flier to distribute viewfinders and double as a prompt/instruction. The fliers were printed in on Riso in black and on a green stock. I needed the viewfinders to be quite dark so that they would more clearly block the light when being used. I punched a variety of holes into the cards, a single 3mm hole and rough pattern of 1.5mm holes that were close enough to see through at one time to create a divided visual when looking through.

I’ve used very simple directions on the back side to invite people to watch Dolphin Close through the holes in the card and take a few photos through the holes when watching then send me an email with those photos and some captions. The QR code that triggers the email has more instructions within it, so that participants are given more information as they engage further.

The fliers will be distributed at CSM, at my studio amongst other designers and artists and the community farm I work at. I have printed 60 in total, which I hope will get me at least 10 responses.

I’m interested in how it lands with such different audiences. Is additional context or description needed to present this prompt to the different audiences? It’s easy to hand this simple prompt to my those in my tutorial as they are familiar with a broader context, but that is not the case with the other groups with whom I may need to be more persuasive with to garner a response!

Compiling responses

The responses from this flier will likely take weeks to come in, so I’ll be looking to work with them over the summer break. I will investigate different ways of publishing what responses I get, as I will have details for all participants I will make anything published accessible to them so that I can get a sense of how my findings land with the different groups.

To be continued…
